I dont think blaming the vitriol in American politics for the shooting in Tucson is fair or productive. The shooter was obviously crazy, and the signs that he would do something like this were apparent. There is no evidence that he watched Glenn Beck or supported Sarah Palin. There has been vitriol in politics, perhaps not as crazy as today, but it has existed since American Politics has. In the end free speech no matter how crazy is is better than the alternative.
If we want to focus blame on something that could lead to a productive outcome, lets blame our lax gun control laws. How this guy was able to legally purchase a handgun with a 30 plus bullet clip is beyond believable No matter what side of the gun control issue you stand on, support for unlimited weaponry in the hands of any person with the money or inclination is outrageous.
Now is the time to pass some real reform in gun control. We can allow reasonable sane people to own reasonable sane guns, used for reasonable sane purposes without violating anyones rights. Now is the time to say no to weapons whose only purpose can harm society. Now is the time to say no to people owning guns who cannot prove they have the knowledge or sanity to use them properly.
If we want to blame anyone on the Tucson shootings.... Lets blame the NRA
