Ancient thoughts

I walked along the edge of the canyon wall traveling from one great house to another. In a wink…. There was no sound, no birds, and no wind. Except there were voices, seemingly hundreds of them rolled together in chaotic collection . Then as quickly, the birds and wind returned. The voices were gone.

I looked at the wall and saw the petroglyphs.

I caught up with the Duchess and explained the situation and we walked up and down the canyon wall hoping the voices would return. They did not. Had I entered a vortex into another time and place, or did the beauty of the place so astound me that my imagination took over?

It is fascinating to think of the early settlers of this land. Those who either came by the great bridge or by sea, before the Norse, the Chinese, or the Spanish made their great discoveries.

Their societies, cultures; or whatever modern term you want to use are the delight of historians and archeologists to figure out, like great jigsaw puzzles of thousands of pieces. Its fun just to read the speculations! Its like trying to figure out what the person next to you on the plane is thinking by looking at their clothes.

Do you do that? Wonder what random people are thinking. Sit in an airport one day and just look around and get into the minds of your fellow travelers. Its fun. And about as easy as figuring out that the ancients are drawing spacemen riding dragons and wheels of life!
