Victory

John McCain said the other day that he would make sure we had victory in Iraq. I am not sure what he meant by victory.

I have always wanted to win; have a victory. I want my football team to win. When I play cards; I want to win. Ask my kids who the hearts champ is! I want victory in my business pursuits. I hate losing jobs; in other words I hate it when victory is denied me.

Time has led me to consider victory in different terms. It’s a victory, albeit small, when I pass on desert. A larger victory might be riding 100 kms on my bike. The real victories have nothing to do with me, or seemingly so. Watching my kids graduate from college, or see my son pick up a hammer or paint brush and show me that two left thumbs is not genetic. I love to see my sons make good decisions. I love their success; it is my victory.

But you know; my kids do not always make good decisions and they are not always successful; but even that is my victory.

Is MCain's victory like a football score; or is victory more subtle? Simple minds look for simple solutions i guess.
