Last Day at Ajax

Last Day at Ajax
Last day at Ajax….. Not quite the party that we had at Highlands… but the day sure was spectacular. Warm and sunny…. A perfect day for the Duchess.

Lots of people were out on the mountain and we saw many friends; a few of which will be pictured here. In fact… below is Steve. Steve lives in Woody Creek a short walk from out house.

We love Woody Creek. When we travel we always tell people that we are from Woody Creek. There is nothing bad about Aspen; but there is so much good about Woody Creek.

Actually there are some bad things about Aspen. There are rich people there who like showing people how rich they are. And of course those same people want to show how powerful they are.

Power in Aspen is exhibited in many ways. Walking across the street where there is not crosswalk when there is a car on the way. Walking across the street in a cross walk in what I call the Aspen walk; you start to cross and when you see a car coming you go into slow motion. Rich people, not I am not including all rich people, just those who want you to know that they are rich, also like to show off at the restaurants. The like to make sure the matre de knows their name, and God forbid if their reservation is not ready they and huff and puff like the big bad wolf. These rich people like to push their way into public places like everyone should know how important they are and they can’t possibly wait in line for anything. Of course there are the animal skins.
I don’t want to be negative about Aspen; it has connotations; and they are all true.

Not everyone that lives in Aspen is rich.

Woody Creek has rich people too. Some of them belong in Aspen, but for some reason they have settled into Woody Creek. They occasionally make their grand appearances at the Tavern, most the time they travel, Thank God.

Woody Creek has connotations too. Hunter S Thompson; Gonzo; The “Tavern”; Ringo lives here and so did Ed Bradley; of course there are other “stars”; I kind of like seeing John Oats around the community; but Aspen has their stars as well.

Woody Creek has space. You can drive up Woody Creek Road and see farm land, and wild spaces. There are many people to thank for this so I wont try But it says something about what people in Woody Creek care about.

Woody Creek has a trailer park. The people who live in the trailer park are not rich. In fact rich people cannot live in the trailer park. The people who live there are involved in the community and keep the rich people in line. I love the diversity.

I hate the topic of rich and poor. But it is descriptive.

Living in Woody Creek is more about community. Communities exists with people of all economic, racial, gender, sexual orientation and so on… The feeling in Woody Creek is that al these diversities are welcome. New people are welcome as long as they are not obnoxious. I guess I’m not, since I feel welcome. I don’t get that feeling in Aspen and that’s why I tell people I am from Woody Creek, and I am.
